If you are getting interested in urban farming, or want to meet other people in the community there are lots of ways to get involved. If you are interested in volunteering to help feed your community, learn something new, or just make some new friends there is something for you.

Volunteer

There are lots of places to volunteer if that is what you're looking for. In Seattle, Yes Farm by the Black Farmers’ Collective runs opportunities every week for anyone to come volunteer and help feed the community. If you are looking for something else check out any of the Seattle p-patches for potential opportunities here! Alternatively, soup kitchens and food drives are always looking for extra volunteers if that is more your speed!

Take a Class

Learning something new is fun for everyone. Taking a class isn’t just for kids and students. Gardening, farming, and artisanal classes are being held all year round. If you are looking for a new hobby or to level up on your passions, taking a class is a great start. It is also a great way to meet new friends who share an interest. Classes can be found everywhere, google, local plant stores or coffee shops, and even in facebook ads.

Get Active on the Internet

If you are interested in meeting people interested in Urban Farming all over the world get on the internet! Whether it is YouTube, Instagram, or Facebook there are creative people all over the world sharing their gardens, farms, and hobbies. Finding collectives or online communities like ours at the Urban Farming Exchange is a great place to find people.

Look at City Events

If you live in the greater Seattle area check out Green Seattle, Tilth Alliance, and the City of Seattle website to check for events near you. These groups also run classes and volunteer programs. If you live somewhere else check out your city's website for outdoor volunteering events and classes!
